Hair Removal FAQ’S

• Most all methods of hair removal cause some kind of discomfort or skin irritation
• Shaving does not change the texture, color or rate of hair growth (really the FDA says so)
• Shaving was uncommon in women until after WWI (Yucky or Nice I can’t decide)
• Skin should never be shaved dry – wet hair is pliable, soft and easier to cut – and always use a clean sharp razor for a safe and comfortable shave.
• Always use a lubricant ( shave gel or shave cream) when shaving to prevent facial hair irritation and get a closer shave.

• Depilatories -are like a chemical razor. They are available in creams, gels, lotions, aerosol and roll-on forms.
• Always perform a small UN-noticeable skin test for allergic reactions and sensitivity when trying any hair removal product.
• Waxing systems should never be used over varicose veins, moles or warts.
• Hormonal changes can cause new hair growth in areas where hair removal has already treated.
• Stress can actually slow hair growth and/or cause the hair to become brittle and weak. (maybe a good reason to stress)
• Men usually request hair removal treatment for the area between the eyebrows, outside of the ears, shoulders and most popular back hair removal.
• Women usually request facial hair removal – the lip, chin, eyebrows and neck but also request treatment for bikini hair removal. Other common hair removal areas include abdomen, breast, forearms and underarms.

Hair Removal Tips

• For perfect eyebrow plucking – use an old mascara brush that has been cleaned and comb the eyebrow upward. Pluck any hair that are stray, if the hairs are long, get a pair of scissors and trim them, if you don’t it will look like you over twee-zed.
• Estrogen discourages hair growth helping to slow the growth cycles.
• Applying baby oil after shaving can reduce itching and irritation. It also softens the hair follicle for an easier shave next time.
• No dry shaving – if the shave cream can is empty use some unscented lotion or even liquid hand soap.
• If you have irritation after a hair removal treatment use hydro-cortisone cream for relief, it’s inexpensive and available just about anywhere!
• To prevent ingrown hairs after hair removal use a lotion containing alpha-hydroxy acid, it exfoliates the skin.
• If you going to use a waxing system, the hair needs to be about 1/4 inch long for best results. That means you are going to have to skip shaving for a few weeks!

A few tips for growing facial hair – strange thought I know but read on anyway!

• If you have ever plucked to much hair – apply vitamin e over the plucked area, the hair will grow faster and thicker

• Want thicker and longer eyelashes? Use baby shampoo – no kidding – simply wash your eyes with warm water, put some baby shampoo on a q-tip, apply to the eyelash and massage for about 1 minute then rinse well. It takes about a week to see the results
